よく庭に置かれている小人の置物や猛犬注意の看板、うるさい隣人、そんな何の変哲もない街の風景を描きながら、彼女の故郷オーストラリアの政府に対する不信感を歌っています。まったくうまくいかない政策や国民の為と言いながら結局自分の利益が大事な政治家を巧みに暗喩しているフレーズがところどころに見られ、そんな彼女のウィットに富んだ語り口に感嘆してしまいます。
ちなみに数年前行った展覧会で知ったんだけど、ポンペイの人たちは玄関の床にタイルの欠片で犬のモザイク画を作って「猛犬注意」のサインにしていたらしいです。その頃日本人が作っていたのは土器や土偶だと思うと文明の差にぶっ倒れそうになった、そんな思い出のポンペイ展でした。
